Brushes are packaged at Oral-B's Iowa City, IA, plant at 240/min. Single 12.5-mil polyvinyl chloride "forms" containing 12 thermoformed toothbrush compartments are supplied by Alloyd (DeKalb, IL). Brushes are placed automatically in the cavities and an 8-mil PVC backing card is RF-sealed to the blister. Two spot labels are applied to the tops of the unusually cut blisters on equipment from Sonoco Machine Div. (Delran, NJ). Nickelodeon- and Rugrats-brand toothpaste tubes hold 4.2 oz of product. The 12-mil, seven-layer tubes use ethylene vinyl alcohol as a primary barrier layer. They're printed in six colors on a flexo press by supplier Thatcher Tubes (Florence, KY). Hinged flip-top polypropylene closures come with inserts manufactured with one of eight different-shaped dispensing orifices designed to appeal to children.
Oral-B, Nickelodeon brush up on oral care graphics
Last month, Belmont, CA-based Oral-B Laboratories introduced a line of collectible tooth brushes and pastes branded with children's cable television network Nickelodeon(TM) and its hit show, "Rugrats." Designed by Kornick Lindsay (Chicago, IL), the colorful packaging/product is part of "a strategic partnership between Oral-B and Nickelodeon in which the packaging helps fight the battle to get kids to brush and make it a better experience," says Sheree Lucas, Oral-B product manager.
