Labeling settlement

Honey Baked Hams, Inc. of Irvine, CA, agreed to change its package labeling as part of a negotiated settlement of a civil suit arising from a complaint by the Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health.

An investigation by USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) found that labels for spiral sliced glazed hams did not contain sufficient information on the perishability and need for refrigeration of the product. FSIS also found the company had made false and misleading claims in its ads about ingredients and the smoking process used. Honey Baked Hams agreed to pay $125ꯠ in civil penalties and $8굌 in court costs as part of the settlement in which it did not admit liability.
