Reformulating the bottle

When automotive chemical manufacturer Snap Products expanded its "Outlaw" line of fuel additive products and reformulated other premium products, the company chose to revamp packaging with an innovative aluminum bottle.

The result is a consistent look for the premium portion of the company's fifty-plus products. Instead of using a mix of steel cans and plastic bottles, the company now packages its premium products in Advanced Monobloc's (Hermitage, PA) 16-oz tapered aluminum bottles. "Aluminum is the ultimate barrier material for these powerful, concentrated chemicals," says Alice Crowder, director of marketing for Durham, NC-based Snap Products. This marks only the second application of the double-tapered long-necked bottle, previously thought impossible to produce. In a process called impact-extrusion, a straight-walled container is formed. Then, through tool design and Advanced Monobloc's proprietary neck-down machine, the neck and threading are formed. The bottles are offset-printed in five colors. A foil-lined, child-resistant polypropylene cap is provided by Sunbeam Plastics (Evansville, IN). Probably best known for its Fix-A-Flat, Snap's products are sold nationwide at automotive stores and mass merchandisers.
