Web Plus: Interactive product matrix, reloaded

Tuscarora (www.tuscarora.com), part of SCA Global Packaging, decided it needed a way to allow potential customers to customize their search for protective packaging via the company’s Web site.

The result is a tool called the Interactive Product Matrix. It helps users find protective packaging solutions based on values they enter. This tool has consistently ranked as one of Tuscarora’s top five pages visited on the site.

The matrix allows the user to select the type of application they need, such as cushioning, dunnage, or temperature assurance. It then asks the user if they have a preferred material, or if they’d like to see examples of all available materials.

The site then displays customized results, which include photos and material types, a description of the package, the application, and the process used to produce the package. Users can then scroll through their options to help them determine their ideal packaging solution.

First introduced with the launch of the redesigned Web site, the Interactive Product Matrix was updated with additional features in 2002. This update enabled the company to extend the tool’s use to trade shows and sales presentations.
