It’s no secret Americans love their pets, and grocery stores shelves hold a dazzling array of brands and package types. Metal is the number-one choice for pet food manufacturers in the U.S. (see chart). Sixty-seven percent of dog and cat food packaged in the U.S. comes in cans, with 23% coming in flexible packaging. Paper-based packaging and rigid plastic make up the last ten percent.
In Canada, metal packaging captures 54% of the market, with flexible packaging claiming a much larger share than the U.S. with 44%.
Top dog and cat food brands like Blue Buffalo, Mars and Nestle deliver consistency to the consumer with efficient process and packaging lines.
