New chip pack format seen at PACK EXPO East

Irving, TX-based Mission Foods has sold its popular tortilla chips in preformed flat-bottom pouches made of a paper lamination for many years now, but new packages shown at PACK EXPO East suggest that a change is being evaluated.

Now in test for tortilla chips is a h/f/fs pouch.
Now in test for tortilla chips is a h/f/fs pouch.

Shown at the AlliedFlex Technologies booth was a standup pouch looking very similar to the one that consumers are so familiar with. But this one is significant because it’s not a preformed pouch filled on a Urania Engineering machine. It’s made from rollstock on a Velteko Model HSV-360 vertical form/fill/seal machine. Mission Foods is said to be testing the new format. According to Velteko, advantages include not only cost reduction and an increase in throughput but also better seal integrity that could lead to longer shelf life and fresher product.
