“From a one-handed pour to culturally inspired flavors, we’re working to bring to market exactly what consumers want,” said Morningstar president Bing Graffunder in a March 4 press release announcing the new package. Packaging World was unable to reach Graffunder for further comment by press time. But this much has been pieced together.
The 16-oz PET bottle is made in-house at the Murray, KY, Morningstar plant where the product is bottled. The bottle has a 38-mm finish to which a foil liner is heat-sealed before application of a two-piece custom dispensing closure injection-molded of polypropylene by Owens-Illinois (Toledo, OH). O-I molds and assembles the two-piece closure in its Bowling Green, OH, plant. The smaller of the two pieces is a “toggle” device that snaps into the top of the much larger piece. A press of the forefinger on the “ball” of the toggle snaps the closure open (photo above right). Closing is done by simply pressing down.
