Food Grade Ink

Videojet launches its V498 food grade ink for the Videojet 1000 Line of continuous inkjet printers. Green in color, it is ideal for printing codes on eggshells and other selected foods and dissolves completely when exposed to water or water-based fluids.

Non-MEK V498 is a Videojet iQMark ink product. The iQMark designation is given to Videojet inks that are responsibly designed and manufactured to maximize contrast, adhesion, and uptime while meeting safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. The ink is also manufactured in adherence with the FDA’s Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

V498 employs an ethanol solvent base and other food grade materials in its formulation. It is water-soluble and easily removeable with water or other water-based liquids.

To efficiently print on eggshells, Videojet 1000 Line CIJ printers using V498 ink are generally integrated with egg graders. Printheads are most often installed to print on the side of the egg, although printhead flexibility also allows printing on other eggshell locations.

Other applications that can benefit from the use of V498 ink include printing on paper bags, paper labels, and paperboard boxes, especially those containing food products where the container is not considered an effective barrier between the printing ink and the food product.

Sherry Washburn, Videojet Business Unit Manager for Supplies, said, “V498 green ink gives egg producers and other food manufacturers yet another option for producing durable codes on products while differentiating their brands. At Videojet, we listen to food industry demands and respond with unique, well-tested inks of superior quality, performance and compatibility.”
