Training for mechanics, technicians, engineers

Worth noting are upcoming training opportunities and newly developed resources for automation professionals and industrial maintenance mechanics.

The Instrumentation, Systems, and Automation Society (ISA) has launched its Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics (CIMM) program. The CIMM Web site, www.isa.org/cimm, features the most recent information about this new certification program for industrial maintenance mechanics, including the eligibility requirements, upcoming exam dates, key knowledge and skills areas, and a detailed program handbook. The first CIMM exam is scheduled for October 7 in Houston at ISA Expo 2004.

Also new from ISA is a study guide for ISA’s new Certified Automation Professional (CAP) program. The guide provides practice questions and answers for the upcoming CAP exams, which start October 7 at ISA Expo 2004. The CAP exam will focus on six performance domains that demonstrate an automation professional’s ability to identify, design, and integrate appropriate automation technology in a manufacturing facility. The six domains are Feasibility Study, Definition, System Design, Development, Deployment, and Operation and Maintenance. Copies of the exam study guide can be ordered at www.isa.org/cap.

Finally, Pepperl+Fuchs has announced two upcoming AS-I Safety at Work (SaW) user training courses at their training center in Twinsburg, OH. These courses are designed to educate people unfamiliar with SaW network operation and components. Due to the hands-on nature of the training, each course is limited to eight participants. Scheduled dates are September 7 (registration deadline of August 27) and November 16 (registration deadline of November 16).
