The International Assn. of Printing House Craftsmen, Minneapolis, MN, recently recognized Polytainers Inc. with four awards in its 29th annual International Gallery of Superb Printing competition.

The following two injection-molded cups earned gold awards: President’s Choice Organics Plain Yogurt, a 500-g polypropylene cup, and Danone Classic Fruit Yogurt Field Berry, a 750-g PP cup.

The judging for the annual IAPHC awards was held in Minneapolis last August, with winners announced in November. The contest drew more than 3ꯠ entries from around the world.

Polytainer’s projects are eight color dry-offset printed using Polytype printing presses, according to Polytainers graphics manager Grant Kennedy. Polytainers also supplies the polyethylene lids.

Kennedy says Polytainers did the prepress work for these winning packages and was involved in graphics design development.

“For example, for the Danone job, I flew to Montreal in February 2003 for a creative meeting with Danone’s design people,” says Kennedy. “They had the design most of the way there, but needed input on what they could and couldn’t do. Typically, we get quite involved ahead of time—most designers are familiar with paper printing, but many don’t understand the nuances of printing on round plastic containers.”
