Sweet success for ice cream packs

Since the 1920s, Baldwin Ice Cream has graced the shelves of grocery store freezers. Now, in its first major update since 1994, Baldwin is freshening up both the look and feel of its package with the help of design group MackeySzar (Minneapolis, MN).

Moving from its traditional square package into a ½-gal “square round,” the change represents a move to more consumer-friendly packaging. The bold blue background on the new carton stands out in the freezer case, and the prominent graphics give the package a premium, high-quality appeal. Printed offset in five colors, the packaging is a success with customers as it makes the ice cream easier to store and scoop, says Peter Klein, Baldwin’s marketing director. Baldwin Ice Cream comes in 13 flavors and is only available in grocery stores in Chicago and Boston.
