KOCH Packaging Systems, Inc. has launched KBS-C medplus, a next generation blister packaging machine for medical devices.

The company refers to its slogan “Packaging medical products with the “C” for its focus on compact, character, clean, and clever design.

The system offers compactness: a footprint of fewer than 23 ft in length, and enables simple transfer and a fast production start. Its flexible machine concept covers a broad spectrum of medical devices and pharmaceutical product packaging including syringes, surgical instruments, or kits, treatment sets, medicine or needles. The target market is geared to small and medium batch sizes—with its combination of compact machine dimensions and large forming area (380 mm x 350 mm), the machine is also suited to producing large batches.

The clean machine design is easily accessible and visible, and designed for cleanroom use up to class 10,000 (ISO 7).

Three innovations for heating, forming and sealing ensure packaging quality: Smart Heating, Smart Forming, and Force Vectoring.

  • The patented Smart Heating function accurately controls the heating energy and, in combination with the Smart Forming function, reduces the forming material consumption.
  • Force Vectoring allows for optimum control of the sealing quality.

These processes combined result in high-quality formed and sealed blisters.

The KBS-C medplus machine marks a milestone for the machine manufacturer, not only because it is the first one specifically designed for medical applications, but also because it also closes a gap in the company’s portfolio between the smallest KDT turntable and the high-performance KBS-KF machine.
