A one-egg paperboard 'carton' from Japan

A protective design for single-serve convenience.

Pw 45703 5 Egg Carton2

A materially different take on single-serve packaging for a hard-boiled egg, this paperboard carton sells for ¥74/USD $.94 at a Daily Kamizaki store convenience store in Nagoya, Japan. (Note: The words yude tamago found on the package are Japanese for “boiled egg.”)

A side view shows how the folded paperboard secures the egg in a squared S-shape from top to bottom. Compare it to the one-egg PET clamshell package that was featured several weeks ago that sells for 76¥/USD $0.97. Which do you feel is the better “mousetrap” to keep the egg safe?
