Shell Chemicals: Non-HAP solvents

Shell Chemical (Houston, TX) has launched two PP-based glycol ether solvents: Methyl PROXITOL(TM), commonly called PM, and Methyl PROXITOL Acetate, also known as PMA.

The solvents are colorless, stable liquids with a high boiling point, low volatility and mild odor. Both are biodegradable and not classified as hazardous air pollutants (HAP) by the EPA. They are effective replacements for substances such as methyl glycol ether, ethyl glycol ether and ethyl glycol acetate. The primary market for both is in the coatings industry. They can also be used as an ingredient in printing inks.
