Plastic Technologies appoints Scott Steele president

Scott Steele has been appointed president of Plastic Technologies, Inc. (PTI), effective immediately.

Steele will be responsible for global operations and will report to the company’s board of directors. He had been vice president of PTI since 1995.  Dr. Tom Brady, founder of Plastic Technologies, will continue as chairman.

Steele is recognized internationally as an expert in blow molding technology for plastic packaging applications. Over the past three decades, he has led the development of a wide spectrum of design, development and manufacturing “firsts.”  He joined Plastic Technologies in 1987 as one of the company’s first employees.  Additionally, he is the author of 11 US and international patents.

“Scott has been with PTI since the very beginning.  His broad-based expertise in plastic packaging and his leadership skills make him the ideal person to take our company to the next level,” said Brady.  “Having worked very closely with our clients for many years, Scott knows what it takes to deliver leading edge, commercial packaging results.”

Known as one of the pioneers in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging, PTI’s capabilities have expanded globally into other materials, processes and non-packaging applications in recent years. New material options include biopolymers (such as polylactic acid or PLA), as well as traditional resins such as polypropylene, which are increasingly being used in high performance applications.  PTI also has expanded its processing capabilities beyond injection and stretch blow molding into sheet extrusion, thermoforming and extrusion blow molding.

“I am looking forward to beginning the next chapter in my long tenure with PTI.  Our top priority will continue to be helping our brand owner clients commercialize packages that meet or exceed performance criteria,” Steele said.

Steele began his career at Owens-Illinois as a member of the team that developed and commercialized the world’s first successful polyester (PET) carbonated soft drink container.

He has served in numerous positions within The Society of Plastic Engineers and is the past chairman of the Blow Molding Division board. Steele has organized several national plastics conferences and has presented numerous technical papers at prestigious international conference events.
