The introductory to intermediate-level course is a comprehensive two-day program that covers the entire corrugating process as well as linerboard and corrugating medium properties and performance. The course is ideal for process engineers and operators in linerboard and medium manufacturing facilities and corrugated converting plants as well as industry suppliers that need a more in-depth understanding of corrugated box manufacturing.
The program includes sessions on: corrugated; properties and testing of linerboard and corrugating medium; and pulp and paper mill operations. The corrugated session covers methods to achieve the strongest bond and highest quality combined board. Topics include equipment, starch, corrugated process technology, and the importance of linerboard and medium properties and runnability. The linerboard and medium properties and testing session covers the tests, what they mean, and how the properties of the board affect the tests. A full day is devoted to pulp and paper mill operations, focusing on the technology of the pulp and papermaking processes and how they affect containerboard quality, properties, tests, and runnability.
The course faculty includes Dr. Michael J. Kocurek, Professor Emeritus, Paper Science & Engineering at North Carolina State University. Dr. Kocurek is a renowned educator who has taught in-mill company short courses as well as university courses for many years. He has authored 11 books, including the recognized Pulp and Paper Manufacture series covering the entire field of pulp & paper. He will be joined by Jon Porter, Senior Trainer/ Process Specialist for Fosber America. Porter has 30 years of experience designing, building, and delivering technical training.
