Post Holdings Planning to Expand Nevada Cereal Facility

The expansion of the breakfast cereal processing plant will provide Post Consumer Brands with additional production volume, allowing it to better meet consumer demand.

Post Holdings Sparks, Nev Rendering

Post Holdings, a consumer packaged goods holding company, has announced its Consumer Brands business has plans to invest up to $110 million to expand the cereal production capacity at its Sparks, Nev., facility.

The expansion of the breakfast cereal processing plant will provide Post Consumer Brands with additional production volume, allowing the business to better meet consumer demand. It also will help reduce transportation costs and help the business serve its West Coast customers more efficiently.

Project planning and implementation of the expansion are to begin immediately. Some additional capacity will become available in late 2014. Expected to be completed in 2025, the expansion is projected to create approximately 30 to 40 new jobs when fully operational.

“Adding capacity in Sparks will help us balance our network geographically and provide us with greater flexibility to best serve our customers,” says Nicolas Catoggio, president and CEO, Post Consumer Brands. “This expansion also provides us the opportunity to work in close partnership with the Sparks community, including local economic development authorities, to create new job growth.”

Post acquired the Sparks facility as part of an $85 million acquisition of the ready-to-eat cereal business of TreeHouse Foods in June of last year. Post Consumer Brands was formed through the combination of Post Foods and MOM Brands in May 2015. Headquartered in Lakeville, Minn., Post Consumer Brands is the third-largest cereal company in the United States, with a portfolio of products spanning all segments of the category—from household name brands and value ready-to-eat cereals to natural/organic and hot cereal varieties.
