New leaders for PMMI

Mel Bahr of MGS Machine Corp. was elected chairman of the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (Arlington, VA) at the group’s fall meeting in November in San Mateo, CA.

Rocky Marquis, Marq Packaging Systems, was elected vice chairman, and Bernard McPheely, Hartness Intl., will serve as immediate past chairman. Chuck Yuska was re-elected PMMI president. The officers begin service Jan. l, 2002.

In addition, Martin Prakken, Blueprint Automation, Bruce Larson of Goodman Packaging, and Jim Anderson of Marlen Research were all elected to four-year terms on the board of directors. Sam Gall of Triangle Packaging Machinery was re-elected to a one-year term.

In his remarks, Bern McPheely reported that the board had approved an action plan for “Managing business in uncertain times.” Along with various member-only activities, the plan will include a marketing outreach program to end users across different media and a periodic “customer trends briefing” newsletter.
