Shelf-ready packaging saves cash and carbon

A corrugated solution delivers tremendous savings in logistics and distribution, yet it’s designed so that it will work well with a new automated line that’s in the works.

Shelf-ready packaging is no less popular in the UK than in the U.S. Grocerytrader.co.uk describes an ingenious solution implemented by Premier Foods for their line of Fray Bentos steak and veggie pies in tins. The corrugated packaging is impressive for its ability to deliver a potential annual savings of 6000 pallet movements and 230 fewer lorries. As grocerytrader.co.uk puts it, “great savings in cash and carbon!”

In addition, DS Smith took great care in the design of the ShelfMaster pack. Its Z-fold feature has a push-lock bottom that delivers quick assembly on the packaging line and eliminates any need for tape on the base. DS Smith collaborated with Premier Foods so that the printed die-cut package would fit smoothly into a new automated line that is on the drawing boards.
