Chileans increase spending on branded, packaged food. . .

Chilean consumers are moving away from "locally produced staples towards more expensive branded products and processed packaged foods," according to a recent report. Changes in society—especially the increase of women working outside the home—account for the shift. Another change? Demand for "light" food and beverages to cater to the recent emphasis on a healthier lifestyle. Many of these changes result in a demand for ready-made, pre-packaged convenience foods.
