The international Marine Stewardship Council will allow pollack fisheries in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands regions to use its coveted eco-label, signifying that the fish comes from a sustainably managed fishery that is friendly to the environment.

It took the fisheries almost four years of scrutiny by scientists and other experts to win the label approval. The fisheries account for approximately 25% of the world’s whitefish supplies. Pollack is used for fish sticks, fillets, and surimi.
