At its Fall Meeting in Cleveland, Sept. 19 to 21, Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (Arlington, VA) announced that work is underway on its Certification & Accreditation Program for training personnel.
This was one of a number of improvements that packagers are seeking, as reported in an exclusive Packaging World survey in its October 2000 issue. PMMI said it is partnering with General Physics, a professional training consultancy, to develop and administer the courses that are scheduled to begin early next summer. The goal is to “train the trainers” from PMMI member companies so they can qualify for Certification.
Education Committee renamed
In other news, PMMI chairman Bernard McPheely, president of Hartness Intl. (Greenville, SC) reported that PMMI’s Education Committee had been renamed the Education & Workforce Development Committee.
This group will soon announce a workshop for packagers, equipment manufacturers and training specialists to begin the dialogue that will help shape the Training Certification program and implement a standardized level of expertise from trainers who receive accreditation. More details will be available from Maggie Elgin, director of education and workforce development at PMMI (phone: 703/243-8555) or e-mail [email protected].
