Member companies of American and Canadian paper and box associations are expected to take part in the voluntary program. It's designed to reduce the number of recyclable non-waxed boxes that currently end up in landfills. The Fibre Box Assn. hopes the clearer identification will help divert an estimated 10% to 15% of non-waxed cartons from landfills back to the corrugated recycling stream. Identification of waxed boxes was requested by the grocery industry, which is the source of one-third of all recovered boxes.
