Recently implemented ERP software has brought some significant improvements to the firm, which has a sizeable manufacturing footprint in its Las Vegas headquarters, including ingredient blenders, encapsulation equipment, bottle filling equipment (both slat counters and vibratory channel feeders), cappers, labelers, and automated carousel retrieving systems in the warehouse. Until early this year, the firm had no overarching ERP software to provide a unified and coherent look at the total business. But on May 1 Dr. Vita went live with One-System ERPTM from Global Shop Solutions, and the new ERP system has made a huge difference, says CEO Wayne Gorsek.
“In the past,” says Gorsek, “our VP of Sales really had to struggle to get crucial information he needed. With Global Shop, within a month he’s figured out not only how to access the system but also to get reports, work with manufacturing, work with supply chain planning, and work with the finance and accounting people, all of which makes him far more effective in his job. It’s critical to have that all-in-one integrated data base vs the several disparate systems we relied on in the past, systems that just weren’t able to talk with each other.”
Gorsek says the enterprise-wide visibility afforded by the new software can be a huge help when the VP Sales needs to bid on new business.
“Suppose, for example, a large retailer already carrying 9 of our products asks us to bid on 20 more,” says Gorsek. “In the past our VP Sales would have to rely on others in the company to see if we were in a position to make such a bid. It was a very slow and complicated process. And then once he got the information, he didn’t really know if it was 100% accurate. With Global Shop, he goes in on his own and looks at real-time reports on supply chain, production capabilities, scheduling, finance, inventory, and so on—all in one integrated place. It lets him know what our margin will be and lets him say immediately to the retailer, “Yes, we can supply you with these new products. Here’s the price and the scheduling. It’s a win not only for us but for our customers, too.”
