Progresso presents aseptic cooking stocks

In the Summer of 2015, Minneapolis-based Progresso, a unit of General Mills Inc., launched a new line of cooking stocks in distinctive packaging.

According to Jeremy Marincel, Packaging R & D Manager, the stocks are aseptically packaged in paperboard/plastic/foil structured cartons, using carton sleeves and forming/filling/capping equipment from SIG Combibloc, Inc. For extended non-refrigerated shelf life, the one-liter cartons are filled with the cooking stocks in an aseptic zone and ultrasonically sealed and twist-capped.

The aseptic carton design was developed by Progresso in coordination with the packaging design team from Hornall Anderson. Cari Mosher, Brand Design Manager for Progresso/General Mills, notes, “Our relationship with Hornall Anderson has been an unprecedented, seamless partnership. They were instrumental in laying out the vision and design strategy for our reinvention of the soup aisle and helped keep us on target to our objective. We all worked together extremely well.”
