Innovative packager creates jobs in Southern California

It takes five 16.9 fl. oz. recycled PET beverage bottles to make The Bottle Box—a "green" food package from collaborators Robert Mann Packaging (RMP) and Direct Pack, Inc. (DPI).

Recent investments in equipment have made possible the creation of new jobs in some of California’s hardest hit economies, according to Yahoo! Finance.

The Bottle Box
is an FDA-approved food container that uses only 100% recycled #1 plastic bottles.  Bottle Boxes are manufactured on-site at the company’s recycling plants where large bales of plastic bottles are ground down, flaked and washed in preparation to extrude long rolls of 100% recycled PET.  Thermoform machines then form the RPET into a variety of clamshells.  Extrusion, thermoform and labeling jobs have been created in 2 facilities—1 in Sun Valley and 1 in Salinas--to keep up with demand.

The company points to the collaborative effort—between the 2 companies AND the consumers who recycle the bottles—as the source of their success. Says Craig Snedden, President Direct Pack, Inc., "We have worked vigorously to launch our product, and now we are eager to put the right people in place,” to continue their success.
