Mitsubishi Gas Chemical's (New York, NY) Nylon-MXD6 has won FDA approval as an additive for use in the non-food-contact layer of multilayer films.

Nylon-MXD6 can be co-extruded with polyolefins, nylon 6, nylon 66, PET, polycarbonate and other materials with a high-temperature processing range. MXD6 is highly transparent and has a natural resistance to pinholing, says the maker. It is recommended for packaging or lid materials and provides a good gas barrier in food packaging.
