Nordenia introduced their new FlexZibox package, which is a large flexible pouch which incorporates in a pour spout, along with a handle, which hits on the consumer convenience trend. The pour spout is accessed by using a laser scoring tear to remove a corner of the package, thus revealing the pour spout, which is reclosed through a press seal zipper application. The package also has a handle on the side of the package, which makes it much easier for consumers to pour than a typical bag. The bag format can accommodate product up to 50 pounds.
From a sustainability standpoint, Nordenia is promoting the package as an alternative to rigid containers with a handle, and claims the FlexZibox offers up to an 85% source reduction. Nordenia also claims that the GHG emissions for the FlexiZibox are about 40% less than a rigid container and Energy use is over 50% less, based on a study conducted by Allied Development.
The package is already being used by Purina in Europe, and Nordenia expects more launches in the upcoming months.
