The shelf-stable 200-mL cup was developed by Carpak, Rigid Packaging Division. It uses Milliken Chemical’s Millad® 3988 clarifying agent.
“Carpak offered us a transparent container that is easy to produce at a competitive cost using existing equipment,” says Federico Hincapie, a packaging engineer with Alpina. “Through the use of clarified PP incorporating Millad, our new lemonade container offers excellent transparency, which helps to sell our product’s natural lemonade appearance. It has excellent stiffness and shock resistance, all at a competitive price.” The cup is dry-offset printed and is sealed with foil laminate lidding.
The Leemon cup sells for 600 pesos, compared to 1걄 pesos for its 350-mL PET bottle version, and 700 pesos for a newer 200-mL container.
“Its low cost and long shelf life of 60 days has allowed us to reach a market that could not afford to buy the original Leemon in a PET bottle,” says Hincapie. “This new container is helping us increase our market share.”
