Salsas in 48-oz bottle twin-packs

In February 2007, San Antonio Farms, San Antonio, TX, began club-store marketing of double-packs of salsas in 48-oz-volume, six-layer PP/EVOH barrier jugs with .015” wall thickness and 82-g empty-bottle weight. Shelf life of the bottled salsa is 12 months. Average retail price of the salsa twin-packs is between $5.00 and $6.00.

The jugs are custom-manufactured by Consolidated Container Co. (www.cccllc.com) and designed and distributed by major packaging developer and distributor TricorBraun (www.tricorbraun.com).

The bottles feature a 63-mm finish with multiple thread starts (interrupted threads), similar to the type of finish used on glass bottles, and typically used for hot-fill products such as these salsas. Plastic twist closures with built-in induction seal liners--sealed by Enercon (www.enerconind.com)-- provide tamper evidence and barrier against moisture and oxygen. They’re supplied by Berry Plastics Corp. (www.berryplastics.com). In-line capping equipment is from Pneumatic Scale Corp. (www.barry-wehmillerco.com).

Pressure-sensitive labels are supplied by Custom Printed Products (www.cpp-flexo.com), and they are applied using equipment from Label-Aire, Inc. (www.label-aire-inc.com).
