The company uses a Pactiv (www.pactiv.com) Hefty brand Slide-Rite™ reclosure on all of its line of 13 premium products in stand-up pouches. Its easy operation permits users to smoothly and securely close the bag without having to line up the tracks associated with zippered reclosure.
Wagner's had used the zipper reseal on most premium products before, though the slider is “a lot more user friendly and easier to operate,” Stolper says.
“Our research showed that one of the most important feature benefits to consumers was a resealable package,” adds Robert Deziel, Wagner's president and CEO. “This will help
prevent spillage, which reduces wasted bird food and attracting unwanted pests, also preserving freshness and quality.”
Its use resulted from primary consumer research, Stolper notes. In tests, consumers preferred the slider reclosure over zippered press-to-seal technology, according to Stolper.
“We wanted to create a package that is unique from our competition and value added,” says Stolper, who notes a general migration towards slider reclosures on plastic bag packaging. “It's a lot more consumer friendly and is easy to open and to close.”
As far as Wagner's is concerned, using slider reclosure is an open and shut case.
