By 2013, world demand for foodservice disposables is forecast to rise to $48.6 billion. That’s according to “World Foodservice Disposables,” a new study from The Freedonia Group, Inc.

Trends toward convenience-oriented food options due to fast-paced lifestyles and increasing personal income levels are one factor for anticipated growth. Another is rising quick-service restaurant demand.

Freedonia reports, “Products made from biodegradable materials will post robust advances, albeit from a small base, as a result of increased pressure on foodservice operators to reduce their environmental footprint and growing bans on polystyrene-based disposables.”

The report notes that while the Asia/Pacific region will show the most growth in foodservice disposables demand, the U.S. will remain the largest. “Additionally, packaging gains will be supported by the increasing popularity of take-out food from full-service restaurants along with expanded prepared food offerings in supermarkets and other retail stores,” says Freedonia.

The 349-page report is available for $5,600 by contacting Corinne Gangloff at 440/684-9600, or by e-mail at [email protected].
