Accelerating innovation backed by a deep chemistry bench, reliable supply chain and global footprint, Dow Paper Coatings will introduce its new high-strength styrene acrylic and vinyl acrylic binders this week duringPaperCon 2015. New RHOPLEX Diamond Styrene Acrylic (SA) Binder and POLYCO Diamond Vinyl Acrylic (VA) Binder will be highlighted as part of Dow’s leading portfolio of technology-based solutions for paperboard and specialty paper coatings April 19-22 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
“Dow has been a long-time trusted supplier of solutions to the global paper industry, and remains committed to accelerating innovative technologies that drive significant value for our customers,” says Bob Gargione, global business manager for Functional Coatings at Dow. “Doing more with less is a hallmark of sustainability and a driving force behind the development of our new innovations for paper and paperboard. Our products enhance performance and sustainability and help improve cost efficiency for our customers.”
New RHOPLEX Diamond Styrene Acrylic Binders for paper and paperboard coatings offers breakthrough binder strength. RHOPLEX Diamond SA Binder can allow mills to reduce binder consumption by up to 30% while maintaining strength and performance properties equal to or greater than conventional styrene acrylic and styrene butadiene binders. The new binder can also provide equivalent IGT dry pick resistance at 20% to 30% lower binder levels along with excellent process stability, high ultra-violet (UV) and heat stability, and higher ink gloss. High strength RHOPLEX Diamond SA Binder also meets Food & Drug Administration (FDA) 21CFR 176.170 and 21CFR 176.180, German BfR recommendation XIV-A, and China’s GB9685-2008 standard for uses of additives in food containers and packaging materials.
In addition to RHOPLEX Diamond SA Binders, Dow is introducing POLYCO Diamond Vinyl Acrylic Binders to optimize paperboard coating performance while using fewer synthetic materials. The binder’s dry pick strength, gluability, high optical coverage, and UV and heat stability along with compliance with the FDA and BfR food contact standards make it an excellent solution for food packaging.
