Cascades: Mushroom container reduces environmental footprint

Made of low-density PETE (LDPETE), Cascades’ Ultratill mushroom container contains 80% recycled post-consumer material, is said to be lighter than comparable containers, and provides a 62% reduction in the CO2 emissions produced during its life cycle compared to traditional mushroom containers made of HIPS.

Although lighter weight, Ultratill is a strong, durable package that resembles common mushroom packages consumers expect.

The Ultratill line is the result of Cascades’ investment in improved manufacturing processes that require less raw materials, diminishing the environmental footprint of the end product throughout its life cycle. The use of recycled material is another major factor in Ultratill’s environmental performance.

Ultratill’s lower weight can lead to lower costs when considering municipal solid waste recovery programs and processing services.

Currently available in three sizes, other Ultratill formats will become available over the next 12 months.
