Dial captures salon brand imagery

Bottles combining upscale graphics, convenient dispensing and, in at least one instance, post-consumer resin sandwiched between virgin layers, helped Phoenix-based Dial Corp's Consumer Products Group introduce K"y"(TM) Nature's Creative Energy personal care products early this year.

Dial uses three bottles for the line: a stretch/blow-molded oriented polypropylene oval that holds 8 oz; an extrusion/blow-molded polyethylene terephthalate cylinder that holds 6 oz; and an extrusion/ blow-molded high-density polyethylene "Lexington Round" that contains 8 oz. This tri-layer bottle incorporates a minimum of 25% post-consumer PE between two virgin layers. Silgan Plastics (Chesterfield, MO) molds all three bottles, which are distributed by Caliber Packaging (Cerritos, CA). Bottles are frosted, screen-printed and filled by outside firms. "We wanted to capture the imagery of a salon brand, and replicate the look of personal care products sold in salons and finer department stores," says Mary Busch, assistant brand manager. Apparently, the mission was accomplished. "All of our buyers think it's a very attractive package," says Busch.
