Kraft adds more nutrition information

Responding to the Food & Drug Administration’s call for clearer nutrition information on smaller packages, Kraft Foods, Northfield, IL, has announced its answer.

Pw 12471 Big Bag

The company will add more nutrition information on its snack and beverage packaging that contain two to four servings.

Along with nutrition details about an individual serving, Kraft will also provide the details about the entire package. And the total number of servings will be clearly stated on the front of the package.

“With Kraft ‘doing the math’ for them, people can instantly see just what they’ll be consuming if they choose to eat the entire contents of a package,” says Lance Friedmann, senior vice president for global health and wellness at Kraft. “This puts the choice of portion size in their hands, and gives them the information they need to make sure it’s an informed choice.”

The new labeling initiative complements the company’s efforts to offer a broad range of portion-size choices, including snacks in small packages like its new Nabisco 100-calorie packs. The first product to carry the new information is Ritz Chips’ Big Bag. Other packs that will carry the expanded information will be Planters Big Bags, Nabisco cookies and crackers in Go-Paks!, Big Bag packs, and ready-to-drink beverages such as Capri Sun Refreshers.

Outside the U.S., where regulations differ, selected smaller size packages will include enhanced information, including the total number of calories and advice that the package contents should be consumed on more than one occasion.
