Sealed Air Corporation: Barrier film

NylShield(TM) from Sealed Air Corp. (Saddle Brook, NJ) is an extra-wide, heavy-gauge, nylon-based, five-layer barrier film. The new film is available in thicknesses from 2 to 6 mils and can be produced in widths of 90" or greater.

Nylon percentages are between 10% and 40% of the total structure. The outside layers of NylShield can be chosen from LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, EVA, mPE and mLLDPE. Applications include liners of bulk containers, food packaging and heavy-duty shipping sacks.

New toilet bowl cleaner pods from Gove Co. use 38% less PVA and are sold in a certified home-compostable pouch, replacing the brand’s earlier metal tins.

The adhesive volume is now electronically controlled with the new equipment using 24V signals to activate the electric valves, instead of adjusting the volume using nozzles and pneumatic pressure.
