Flexibles and E-commerce

“The death of the dot-coms does not mean the death of electronic marketplaces or Internet-based business. In fact, a new era in technology is dawning that will be characterized by firms that form and reform business consortia to take advantage of new market opportunities.”

So reports “The Impact of Electronic Markets on the Flexible Packaging Industry,” a report prepared for the Flexible Packaging Assn. by Dr. Albert H. Segars. Based on extensive surveys conducted last year by the University of North Carolina that included FPA member participation, the study reports that flexible packaging businesses use Web technology mainly to broadcast information internally. However, the survey suggests, “the flexible packaging industry does not use technology to integrate external transactions, information, and knowledge throughout the supply chain.” For more information, call FPA at 410/694-0800, or visit [email protected]
