PVC? The truth please!

Could someone please tell me what the real issue surrounding polyvinyl chloride film is? Depending on whom you speak with and what their agenda is, you get vastly different information. I have done as much research as possible on this subject and have yet to find any conclusive proof of PVC’s “bad boy” reputation. So what is the scientific data to support or dispute the claims of PVC’s “toxicity”? And, what types of recycling support does this film have? By that I mean, how, where, and from what is PVC recycled?
