Fine French wine gets the RFID treatment...

An RFID tracking system developed by eProvenance ensures the quality of French wine during handling, transportation and distribution.

A semi-active RFID tag is placed inside each case and allows vintners to monitor and log ambient temperatures in each case three times a day. Another RFID tag that can be attached to the bottom of each bottle also discourages pilfering and eases inventory management. By creating a "definitive global database" the company hopes to influence practices in the distribution channel and increase the value of a bottle of fine wine.
