At a recent meeting, Codex was urged by the International Council of Grocery Manufacturers Associations to adopt the U.S. approach. Speaking for the council, Claire Regan of the Grocery Manufacturers of America also opposed a proposal to expand the number of nutrients to be included on nutrition labels, warning it was a disincentive for the food industry to provide voluntary nutrition information, especially on products with limited label space. The council also urged the committee to allow manufacturers to promote legitimate health claims on food product labels.
