FMI endorses OTC changes

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) supports FDA's proposed regulation to establish a standardized labeling format for over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. But in comments to FDA, the trade group asked for national uniformity in requirements for OTC drug product labeling.

FMI also supported the addition of "or Pharmacist" to the label phrase "Ask Your Doctor." And it called for flexibility in type size to accommodate smaller containers or packages, suggesting type smaller than FDA's proposed 6 point but not less than 4.5 points. Finally, FMI suggested a three-year compliance deadline versus the two proposed by FDA.
