Mexico has new labeling rule

Commercial products sold in Mexico are subject to new labeling requirements that took effect November 1, 1996. The rule outlines the language that must be included on consumer product labels and defines terms, including packaging, labels and tags, instructions, guarantees, and the principal display panel.

Mexico requires that information on package labels appear in Spanish. Where information is in another language, a Spanish translation of at least the same size and type must be equally displayed.

An unofficial, literal translation of the new labeling regulation is available free of charge through the Package Design Council.
