STOP, look and read

Thompson Medical Co., West Palm Beach, FL, wants consumers to read the labels it puts on its nonprescription drugs. So it's designed new, simplified information headings to tell readers about active ingredients, uses, directions, and consumer warnings.

The firm even includes a bold STOP sign on its labels to help ensure that consumers will read all important information before product use. According to president and CEO Daniel Horwitz, Thompson's full line of products--including Dexatrim, Cortizone-10, Asper-creme, Sportscreme, Hemorid, Capzasin-P, and Sleepinal--will have the new format by the end of the year. Thompson conferred with the Food and Drug Administration and the FDA OTC Labeling Task Force to develop its format.
