Susan E. Selke is a professor in the MSU School of Packaging and an adjunct professor of chemical engineering in the College of Engineering at MSU. Prior to being named Director of the School of Packaging, effective immediately, she served as acting director from 2007 to 2009 and was serving as associate director at the time of the new appointment.
“We are grateful that Sue Selke is bringing her leadership back to the School of Packaging,” says CANR Dean Fred Poston. “The School of Packaging has long been a pioneer in the field of packaging, and Dr. Selke is the right person to lead it at this time.”
Selke was recognized as an MSU distinguished faculty member in 2012 and is one of the world’s leading scholars in sustainability, packaging materials and the end-of-life scenarios of packaging. Selke has also been honored by governmental agencies, trade associations and nonprofit organizations throughout her career.
“I’m humbled and honored by the opportunity to lead the School of Packaging during this time of refocusing and reinvention as we transition into the future, ensuring that MSU continues to be the home of the foremost packaging education program in the United States and the world,” Selke says.
Dedicating her life to helping others and making a global impact, she has mentored 40 master’s and 10 doctoral graduates, several of whom are now serving as faculty members in the U.S. and overseas. She is a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Society of Plastics Engineers.
The MSU School of Packaging is the pioneer and leader in its field, established in 1952 as a discipline within the MSU Department of Forest Products. In 1957, it became an independent school, and is now the School of Packaging is part of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
