Because of the recent bottled water boycott by several environmental groups, Aqua2Go was packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes made of paper derived from sustainably harvested trees. But because the boxes contain 20 percent polyethylene, they impact the environment as much as 100 percent plastic containers. And even though the lumber used to make the boxes is harvested in a Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)-backed way, groups like The National Wildlife Federation and the Sierra Club have attacked the SFI, and Aqua2Go by default. Griffin plans to forge ahead with her product, and looks to the consumer to make the final decision about her packaging choices.
