Wal-Mart steps up eco-friendly practices in Hawaii...

Solar energy, large-scale recycling efforts, product selection, and consumer education initiatives are being introduced in a big way in Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores on the islands of Hawaii.

Twenty-two stores have been set up with solar power systems, and the giant retailer intends to build "green" stores. Not only have recycling bins been set up in stores for plastic bags, Wal-Mart is accepting plastic bags collected by other retailers. Then, Wal-Mart bundles the bags, and other plastic recycling materials into "sandwich bales" and sends it back to the mainland for recycling.
