Wax, dyes and formaldehyde found in Chinese food products. . .

China's government has closed nearly 180 plants after inspections discovered raw industrial materials in biscuits, flour, and seafood.

The ongoing inspections do demonstrate China's commitment to food safety reform. However, importers will need to keep a close watch on foods entering from China, as nearly three quarters of China's one million food processors—spread across this vast country—are small, private operations. Penalties for violators of China's Food Hygiene Law include at least 10 years in jail, and in some cases, the death penalty.
