More carbon footprint woes--this time in Wales...

Environmentalists in Wales are telling Welsh consumers to stop drinking bottled water.

Now the world's fastest growing beverage, bottled water should be dumped in favor of tap water, Welsh environmentalists say. Not only would plastic in landfills decrease, but also the energy used to ferry water from near and far could go down—further lessening the weight of a carbon footprint. To rebut the criticism, the Bottled Water Information Office says both the glass and plastic packaging used for bottled water can be recycled. And biodegradable packaging is being researched. Still, many agree that drinking bottled water cannot be justified when tap-delivered water is perfectly adequate. Interestingly, the call for tap-water consumption comes after a similar campaign was launched by city officials in New York.
