Moosehead muscles in on U.S. light beer market

In April 2008, Moosehead USA, Boulder, CO, the new U.S. importing arm of Canada-based Moosehead Breweries, launched Moosehead Light premium beer into select U.S. markets—including Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Nebraska, New Jersey, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania.

Moosehead is Canada’s oldest and largest independent brewery, and it’s the third-largest Canadian brewer overall, based on production volume.
The 12-oz green glass bottles are supplied by Owens-Illinois (www.o-i.com) and bear litho-printed six-color, metallized blue paper labels supplied by Inland Label & Marking Services (www.inlandprinting.com). The tinplate steel crowns for the bottles and the 12-oz aluminum cans (five-color process-printed) are supplied by Crown Cork & Seal Canada, Inc. (www.crowncork.com).
Fiberboard cartons for the 12- and 24-pack bottled beers, gravure-printed in six colors, are supplied by Mead (www.meadwestvaco.com). The five-color flexo-printed cartons for the 12-pack cans are supplied by Master Packaging Inc. (www.master-packaging.com). A new high-speed cartoner from Graphic Packaging International, Inc. (www.graphicpkg.com) recently was installed to handle the can-cartoning operations.
Moosehead USA president Glenn McDonald notes, “We are pleased to introduce this additional brand to our distributors, retailers, and consumers. Launching Moosehead Light in 10 States is a starting point for us. We are looking forward to offering it to additional markets in the near future.”
